Took the train from Glasgow to the Highlands last week. It was almost a four hour ride, and I planned on reading and sleeping a good bit, but instead my face was glued to the window. Seriously some of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen. Changing so quickly from lush rolling green hills, to coast lines, villages, and rugged mountains. I would take that route over and over if I could.

GLASGOW & GUY FAWKES
Glasgow was nothing like I expected. It was laid back and slow paced and absolutely nothing like the typical big city. People look you in the eye and smile when they pass, and bus drivers and folks working in stores have actual conversations with you. People take their time walking down the street, and no one is in a rush. I sat beneath a blanket of lights in Merchant City, drank a pint of Guinness at Pony (which cost less then my water at dinner), visited the Glasgow School of Art, enjoyed bag-pipeing street musicians, ate a supper of fish & chips, had an almost proper cappuccino and soaked up plenty of good architecture.
I'll be back to Glasgow in December, to do all the things I missed (and squeeze in some Christmas shopping) if you have any suggestions.
I arrived at my next destination just in time for a night of festivities celebrating Guy Fawkes day, or Bonfire Night as they call it here. The village was full of bustling people, fireworks throughout the evening, and a giant bonfire with a 'burning man'. It was the perfect welcoming evening to the village of Banavie.

A FAREWELL WALK IN THE WOODS
Right before I left for Scotland we went for a walk in the woods with our friends Karie and Rob. It was the sort of day we in the mountains live for. Perfectly crisp air, sun peeking through forest branches, long winding trails, vine swinging, and good conversation, with hours of walking up switchbacks, and no where to go but to the top. Just look at that view you get to revel in once you climb all the way up. And those same hills are all gonna be blue when I return in December, truly the best.
Speaking of our friends Karie and Rob, this week they are featured in both NYLON magazine and the FADER. Yes, that's right. They are a very talented bunch who make incredible bags and build cabins, and I am freaking out that I can't get my hands on copies of these over here. I searched every magazine stand at all the airports on the way over here, but they still had October's issues on the self. You all however, should all go get yourselves a copy, and check out Shelter's rave worthy bags in their shop here.

BEFORE I LEFT
So if you follow me on Facebook or anywhere else, you know that I'm in Scotland right now. More on that later. For now, lets play catch up for the next few posts. As the last month flew by, I spent every spare moment soaking up the warm days of autumn, and spending time with those I'll be with out for a while. Like anyone, I love autumn in the mountains, and our trees get the most brilliant of colors. I know when I return they will all be barren and dark, but I love that about them too.
A week full of picnics in the park, sitting in the sun, walking down uninhabited streets, packing bags, and holding hands.
A walk in the woods coming up next..
